Rockstar has kept its date: on August 27 it premiered Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on Netflix, a roughly 26-minute preview with footage entirely captured on PlayStation 5. A few hours later it landed on YouTube and the official game site, where a 4K download is also available.

It is the most substantial promotional beat since pre-orders opened, and it arrives with launch on the countdown: release remains set for November 19, after several delays. Remember: there is no disc. Even if you buy a physical edition, the box only holds a download code. The release is console-first (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S).

If you have been following every leak for months (or years), this piece pulls together only what Rockstar has confirmed officially: what the Extended Look showed, Europe pricing, what came before, and what is still unknown.

An Extended Look: what Rockstar showed

The video is not “Trailer 3”: the official site still lists Trailer 1 and Trailer 2, with this event listed separately as An Extended Look. The tone is closer to fragmented movie than mechanical deep dive, but it does include gameplay from Rockstar for the first time.

Where and when it dropped

WhereWhen (US Eastern)
Netflix (subscribers)Thursday, August 27, 3:00 PM
YouTube and rockstargames.com/VIThursday, August 27, 9:00 PM

In Europe, that is 9:00 PM CEST on Netflix and 3:00 AM CEST on Friday, August 28 on YouTube.

It was the first time an unreleased GTA preview premiered on a streaming platform before Rockstar’s usual channels. Netflix and the studio had worked together before (Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy on mobile via Netflix Games), but this is a first for the series and the industry, and not everyone liked it: it hid unreleased content behind a subscription service, even if it went public a few hours later.

Story and characters

The preview opens with Jason and Lucia collecting a shipment tied to Boobie Ike, an established Vice City figure with real estate holdings, the Jack of Hearts club, and a recording studio. The job goes wrong and turns into a shootout that showcases combat and how they work together.

Brian Heder, Lori, Raul Bautista, and Cal Hampton also appear. In one escape sequence, Lucia drives while Jason and Raul shoot at police before switching vehicles. Later, both leads end up at a high-end event that turns into an armed attack.

Mechanics on screen

What Rockstar shows explicitly in the public video:

  • Character switching: the GTA V system returns. One sequence shows Lucia base jumping from a skyscraper; the camera travels across the map and lands where Jason is with Cal Hampton. Switching is also used in missions to split tasks.
  • Jason-Lucia relationship: scenes outside missions (picking a dress, holding hands, relaxing at home). The couple does not seem confined to specific cutscenes.
  • Combat: cover, weapon wheel, slow motion with marked impact points, close-quarters prompts (Lucia even uses a heel), and shooting from moving vehicles.
  • Wanted level: six stars return (GTA V capped at five). Chases with patrol cars, armed officers, and helicopters.
  • Robberies and car theft: gas station, waffle restaurant, and bigger jobs. Vehicles do not seem instantly accessible: you have to break in or steal them with more steps than in past entries.
  • NPC interactions: random encounters similar to GTA V, and among other options, petting dogs.
  • Home and daily life: fridge, food, drinks, smoking, TV with multiple channels and parody ads at Jason and Lucia’s safehouse.
  • Side activities: basketball, pool, weights, swimming, scuba diving, kayaking, fishing, hunting, skydiving, shooting range, racing, motocross, jet skis, fanboats, and electric scooters. Plus bars, clubs, and recreational driving.
  • Social and phone: livestream-style interfaces with viewer comments, plus references to influencers and viral culture across Leonida.

Rockstar does not explain every system in depth in the video. Outlets like IGN received an additional roughly 30-minute demo at Rockstar North (with dozens of extra details on witnesses, masks, criminal profiles, the WAINK app for car theft, and physical changes from exercise and food). That sits outside the public preview, but confirms layers the Extended Look only hints at.

Release date, platforms, and Europe pricing

What Rockstar has held since November 2025:

  • Release date: November 19, 2026.
  • Launch platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only.
  • PC: no date. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has explained that Rockstar usually prioritizes consoles on launches this big; if the GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2 pattern holds, PC would arrive months (or more than a year) later.
  • Nintendo Switch 2: no announcement.
  • Game Pass / PS Plus: no day-one subscription confirmation; for now it is a full-price purchase.

The official page carries the “Plays Best On PlayStation 5” badge, as often happens with Sony marketing deals on cross-platform titles.

Prices and editions

Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026 at midnight local time. Official Europe list prices:

EditionList priceWhat you get
Standard€79.99Full game
Ultimate€99.99Game + vehicles, weapons, outfits, and story-threaded extras for Jason and Lucia

Pre-order bonuses (purchases before November 20, 2026):

  • Digital pre-order: one free month of GTA+ (auto-renews unless you cancel).

Important: the physical edition does not include a disc. The box has a download code; shipping starts November 12 to allow pre-loading. Digital pre-load also opens November 12.

The Ultimate Edition Upgrade can be bought separately if you start with Standard.

What it is about (per Rockstar)

Grand Theft Auto VI centers its campaign on Jason and Lucia, a couple who “have always known the deck is stacked against them.” An easy score goes wrong and they end up on “the darkest side of the sunniest place in America”: Vice City, heart of the fictional state of Leonida (an expanded Florida with its own cities, swamps, and highways).

Rockstar pitches it as the “biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet” and, in recent press, highlights a single-player experience at launch. It has not yet spelled out how online will fit at release; with GTA V, the story was campaign first, GTA Online after.

Here is how Leonida looks in official material:

What we have seen so far

So far there are two official trailers and the extended look:

  1. December 2023: first game confirmation, Jason and Lucia introduced, first shots of Vice City and Leonida.

  1. May 2025: longer second trailer with more locations, nightlife, wildlife, beaches, and story tone.

  1. August 2026: An Extended Look (26 min), PS5 gameplay, supporting characters, combat, open world, and activities. The biggest step since the initial trailers.

In between, Rockstar has released screenshots, downloadable art, and Newswire posts (November delay, pre-order opening). The Extended Look confirms the game looks and plays like earlier material promised, even if many systems still lack a full public explanation.

Delays: how we got here

The calendar has shifted several times:

WhenAnnounced date
First reveal (2023)Fall 2025
First delay (May 2025)May 26, 2026
Second delay (November 2025)November 19, 2026 ← current date

Take-Two has insisted the November window is firm and that heavy marketing would start in summer 2026. The Netflix deal and Extended Look fit that plan.

What is still unconfirmed

To keep rumors separate from facts, this is not officially public:

  • Online / live-service plans at launch.
  • PC version and timing.
  • Game Pass, PS Plus, or similar day-one availability.
  • Post-launch content or patch roadmap.
  • Fine details of systems the Extended Look only hints at (criminal profiles, relationship depth, exact campaign length).

Any leak about the full map, specific missions, or new mechanics stays in that bucket until Rockstar validates it in a press release or another official video.

Handy calendar

Bottom line

GTA VI is no longer a distant teaser: it has a date, price, open pre-orders, and since August 27, real gameplay in a preview of nearly half an hour. If you missed the Netflix premiere, the video is on YouTube and the official page (with 4K download). Less than three months to Leonida.
